This summer, TKWsIBF student volunteered with an NGO affiliated to the UN to create awareness about a healthy lifestyle, environment protection & harmony in society. The project was a marathon cross-country cycling event dubbed the Golden ride 2.0. It commenced from Delhi to Amritsar covering a distance of 500 kms.
The team ‘Turbanators’ and the ‘United Sikhs’, began their adventure from
Gurudwara Hargobind Sar, GT Karnal Road on March 15, 2018 at 4 a.m and reached The Golden Gate of Amritsar on 17th March 2018. via Ambala Cantt, Jalandhar, Gurdwara Harmindir Sahib and finally Amritsar. The organizers scheduled 30-40 minutes breaks after every 40-50 kms with refreshments like fruits and chilled lassi to rev up the teams. It was tough riding cross country with the afternoon heat beating down on the riders. The Phagwara flying club greeted the cyclers at Jalandhar and joined in the event till Amritsar.
It was a sheer show of physical stamina and mental strength. It was a case of mind over matter and Singh’s strong willpower to complete the event gave him a sense of victory and achievement. It is often said that ‘perseverance pays’ and perseverance is a useful attribute for achieving success whether in sports or any professional career. Singh demonstrates an ample degree of perseverance in completing this cycling marathon event and did not give up in the face of seeming difficulties. We wish him luck in his future endeavors.
Singh elated at being given this opportunity, thanked his family and well-wishers for their support and encouragement.
